Mr. Perez de Alejo is an experienced intellectual property attorney and litigator.  He has represented clients in U.S. Federal District Court, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and before the International Trade Commission in cases involving a number of technical areas, including digital rights management, semiconductors, wireless networking and telecommunications, fiber optics, and nucleotide labeling.  Mr. Perez de Alejo also has extensive trial experience.

In addition to his litigation and trial work, Mr. Perez de Alejo has also counseled clients on patent and intellectual property issues.  In the course of such work, Mr. Perez de Alejo has, among other things, reviewed and audited patent portfolios.

Mr. Perez de Alejo’s clients have included, Apple, Yahoo!, InterDigital, Aruba Networks, Pirelli, Microsoft, and Monster Inc., among others.

Mr. Perez de Alejo is also deeply committed to insuring that underprivileged individuals have access to legal services.  He has personally provided hundreds of hours of pro bono work to women and minorities.  In one representative case, Mr. Perez de Alejo successfully represented a single mother of five at trial in Family Court, culminating in his client (and her children) receiving thousands of dollars in back child support.

Mr. Perez de Alejo was also named a Thomson Reuters® Super Lawyers® “Rising Star” for intellectual-property litigation in 2011, 2013, and 2014.

REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS

  • InterDigital Communications, Inc. v. ZTE Corp. (D. Del.) – Represented InterDigital in a multi-patent infringement case concerning wireless technologies for mobile devices and networks.  The case culminated in a huge win for InterDigital with the jury finding InterDigital’s patents valid and infringed.
  • Apple in numerous matters.
  • Dolby Labs. Licensing Corp. v. Monster, Inc., (N.D. Cal.) – Represented Monster, Inc. in a trademark infringement and unfair competition case involving Monster’s “M” trademark, and obtained a favorable resolution for Monster.
  • Certain Set-Top Boxes and Hardware and Software Components Thereof, 337-TD-561 –

Represented complainant Microsoft in an ITC investigation seeking exclusion of TiVo’s DVRs.  The Investigation favorably settled after the ITC hearing.

  • Blue Spike, LLC v. Yahoo! Inc. (N.D. Cal.) – Represented Yahoo! against Blue Spike in a patent infringement case involving technology for signal recognition and identification of digital information, in the Eastern District of Texas, and obtained a favorable resolution.
  • Grape Tech. Group, Inc. & kgb USA, Inc. v. Jingle Networks, Inc. (D. Del. ) –Managed the validity portion of a patent litigation concerning directory assistance patents. The case culminated with the jury finding all patents valid.
