Dr. Shantanu Sharma

Chief Technology and Innovation Officer

Dr. Sharma brings to our firm over a decade of leadership experience as a senior executive at various venture capital, strategy consulting, intellectual property, and performance improvement firms.

Prior to joining our team Dr. Sharma was the Chief Technology Officer at Patent Licensing International, a venture capital fund focused on commercializing early stage intellectual property. In addition to leading multinational technical, finance, and operations due diligence teams across a variety of both evolutionary and disruptive product lines, Dr. Sharma had primary responsibility for defining business strategy, making go/no go funding decisions, and engineering profitable exits for several key assets.

In his past role as a Vice President and Partner at the Mitchell Madison Group, Dr. Sharma successfully leveraged his background as a Caltech-trained quantitative research scientist to build out and spinoff a data-driven business, customer, and market analytics practice and led successful engagements for Fortune 500 CEOs in strategic sourcing and supply chain optimization. Dr. Sharma started his career as a Management Consultant at OC&C Strategy, a premier UK-based consultancy, and was one of its first employees tasked to establish a US presence. Prior to his transition to strategy consulting Dr. Sharma earned a PhD in Biophysical Chemistry at Caltech, the top-ranked program in chemistry and physics, at the age of 23. He was named the recipient of the Mower and Ben Rosen (Compaq) doctoral fellowships, and received the Cottrell College Science Award from Research Corporation for Science Advancement for “support of significant research that contributes to the advancement of science”.

As a research scientist and former Professor, Dr. Sharma led a research team, acquired grant funding, served on review panels, and published over 15 peer-reviewed scientific articles and a book chapter in fields as diverse as atmospheric and environmentalchemistry (Journal of Physical Chemistry A, B), physical and synthetic organic chemistry (Organic Letters), computational and experimental biophysics (Biopolymers, Journal of Biological Chemistry), bioinformatics and cell biology (Journal of Clinical Investigation, PLoS ONE), and high performance grid computing (PNAS). The results of Dr. Sharma’s research have been presented at over 35 national and international scientific conferences.
