Mr. Baker is an intellectual property attorney with over 11 years experience at top international law firms.  Mr. Baker has litigated complex patent cases across a broad range of technologies, including pharmaceutical products, medical devices, smart phones and wireless communication devices, manufacturing methods for smart cards, Internet search engines, Internet radio systems, and anti-virus software.

Mr. Baker is currently a Managing Editor at Practical Law, where he creates patent litigation resources for law firm, in-house, and government attorneys. Mr. Baker joined Practical Law from Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP, where he was counsel focusing on patent litigation matters. Before that, he was an associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, where he specialized in patent litigation and intellectual property transactions.

REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS

  • Finjan Inc. v. McAfee et al. (Case No. 10-cv-00593 (D. Del.)): Represented Symantec Corporation in patent case pending in Delaware involving alleged infringement of patents related to anti-virus software. Managed all aspects of fact and expert discovery and supervised a team of several attorneys. After a 13-day trial, in which the opposing party sought hundreds of millions of dollars in damages, the jury found the asserted patent claims invalid and not infringed.
  • Motorola Mobility, Inc. v. Apple Inc. (Inv. No. 337-TA-745 (I.T.C.)): Lead associate representing Motorola in patent case at the International Trade Commission and Federal Circuit involving alleged infringement by Apple’s mobile devices, including the iPhone 4 and iPad 3G. Managed all aspects of case strategy and supervised several junior attorneys.
  • MicroUnity Systems Inc. v. Qualcomm, Inc. et al. (Case No. 10-CV-91 (E.D. Tex.)): Represented Qualcomm, Inc. in patent case pending in Eastern District of Texas involving alleged infringement of patents related to parallel processing by smart phone chipsets. Lead attorney responsible for supervising the team responsible for fact and expert discovery on all technical claims and defenses, such as infringement and validity. Case settled shortly before trial.
